Grow Your Brand this Earth Day

This Sunday is Earth Day, so you know what that means!

Or maybe you don’t. But don’t worry, by the end of this post, you’ll not only know what it means, but also what it means for your brand.

Each year on April 22nd, we Earthlings take a little time to celebrate this wonderful planet we inhabit, and the beginnings of the national movement to preserve said planet.

Before 1970, “environmentally conscious” was a rarely used and even more rarely understood phrase. Americans were guzzling gasoline, producing pollution and creating ginormous carbon footprints with no thought as to how these actions would affect our planet. Lack of education and an acceptance of smog as a regular quality of air had led us to believe that all of this was ok.

But 1970 was a tumultuous and experimental time, both in the scientific and social landscapes. People everywhere were beginning to collect and value information, leading more to take public stances on such topics as war and environmental concerns. Eventually, U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, inspired by the anti-war movement and the devastating 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara, decided to take action.

So, on April 22nd of 1970, led by Sen. Nelson, 20 million Americans across the nation took the streets to march in support of a healthy, sustainable environment. The movement unified people of all walks of life, allowing it to accomplish what few such movements had before: actual governmental change in the form of the Clean Air, Water and Endangered Species Acts.

Today, celebrating Earth Day can mean many different things.

Whether you choose to plant a tree or start a neighborhood recycling initiative, there’s no shortage of ways to honor our planet on Earth Day. And as a brand, you have an even greater presence and opportunity to make a difference.

Branded, eco-friendly giveaways are an ideal way to generate awareness for both your brand and environmental consciousness. Think items that promote sustainability and your brand, like reusable water bottles or grocery totes. We can even offer sustainable t-shirts, made from PET materials that would make perfect Earth Day giveaways for your brand.

Alternatively, many communities will put on functions such as run/walks or parades to celebrate. You can use these opportunities to increase your brand’s visibility through sponsoring, hosting or even participating in one of these events.

Happy Earth Day!
