April is National Volunteer Month. How are you observing?

Volunteerism is a cornerstone of America. It’s a process that not only keeps this country going, but instills important values in us, often from a young age. The act of giving back is just good for the soul.

Don’t take my word for it. Studies have shown that those who volunteer regularly report themselves as happy far more often than those who don’t. Helping someone in need benefits everyone involved. It gives a tangible sense of community and civic pride. Giving back is truly good for all.

Much like volunteering itself, encouraging your employees to observe this month-long celebration benefits both them as individuals and your brand.

First of all, it’s scientifically proven that when we’re happier, we have more capacity to learn, be creative and think inquisitively. So, don’t be surprised to find increased levels of productivity from employees who volunteer.

Second, volunteering can create a culture of giving within your company. When you as an organization do more, you encourage your employees to do the same. Plus, volunteering together creates shared positive experiences between your employees, building rapport between you and them.

Finally, investing in your community through volunteering builds relationships with that community, creating buzz and brand awareness. While gaining recognition shouldn’t be your first goal when choosing to volunteer, it definitely doesn’t hurt!

So, what are you waiting for?! Get out there and start celebrating National Volunteer Month today! And don’t forget to thank and outfit your dedicated volunteers with promotional merchandise showcasing your brand.
