How power banks can impact your brand
NEW STAPLES STANDARDS IN YOUR PROMOTIONAL PRODUCTS
As reported in recent news stories, some lithium batteries have been prone to overheating, some to the point of combustion. To further minimize risks to you, Staples is elevating its already high standards for power banks. As of January 31, 2017 we no longer quote, sell or distribute power banks domestically unless they are compliant with one of the following US standards.
• UL 2054 along with supplement 60950-1
• UL 2056
TODAY’S LITHIUM BATTERIES AND POWER BANKS IN THE MARKETPLACE
Lithium batteries are widely used rechargeable battery for a number of personal electronic devices, including the popular promotional product power banks. But these batteries don’t exist without issue. As you may already know, lithium batteries are more susceptible to overheating and may even rupture or explode due to the nature of their rapid charge. These complications have led to regulations put in place involving lithium batteries, particularly as it relates to air travel and, ultimately, to Staples decision to not move forward with the identified power bank models.
PROMOTIONAL PRODUCTS’ IMPACT ON YOUR BRAND IMAGE
Promotional products are powerful brand representatives. They do so much, from creating an affinity to developing recognition. And brands are living, breathing things. They require support and dedication to help them prosper.
As your brand partner, we thrive on creating vibrant products that project fun, positive and practical impressions into everyday lives. Every product is carefully chosen. We look for relevance to fashion, productivity, technology and more trends. We research demographic profiles and consumer preferences to give you the best suggestions.
WE PROTECT YOU FROM RISK
Staples commits to all of our partners that we will do what is necessary to protect your brand name when it comes to the branded merchandise we provide you. Honoring this trust requires much more than selecting the right products. It requires constant marketplace vigilance so we can steer you clear from unacceptable risks. And sometimes that means restricting the sale of products when we believe there is an unacceptable risk for an adverse brand experience.
HOW WILL YOU FIND SAFE POWER BANKS FOR YOUR BRAND MERCHANDISE
While limiting sales to only those that meet these stringent requirements may seem excessive, we are confident it is the right thing to do. And, as noted in the Consumer Report, while the occurrences reported are high profile, the number of batteries at risk compared to the number on the market is much lower. Which means that you still have a large variety of options available to you from your Staples representative to StaplesPromotionalProducts.com. If you are ever concerned or have questions about the power banks you are ordering from us, we are here to help. Just call, chat or email with a representative.
